Flor Fetish : Design Your Own Area Rugs

I found this online recently: FLOR is a company which allows you to design your own area rugs / runners. Each "piece" is designed by you with a nifty online design tool. The rugs are made up of a series of modular flooring tiles. Washable. Changeable. You can even order a free replacement if a tile gets stained or damaged. You can wash them individually. Eco-friendly. Very cool.

I am not really a modern-interiors type of girl, but even I like these...

I have zero space for something like that right now. :) Still, a really cool concept.

We've become huge FLOR fans in the past year and have put rugs down in four different places, using different patterns and textures. Our new rugs look great and we always, always, always get comments from people when they visit. Best of all, everything's holding up well under the onslaught of our children's feet.

To answer your question, we have Striped Poodle by the kitchen door (Go to my 4/25/07 blog entry and scroll through to the end. You can sort of see the rug in one of the last photos.) It's holding up well to the traffic.

We have Thick and Thin in a checkerboard of straw/grass and persimmon/cherry by the front door. It looks awesome, but a high traffic area is not a good place for this rug, so I end up vacuuming that one more than I'd like.

In the living room we have a variation of the Classic Quilt in black, browns, beiges, etc. The Toy Poodle is our favorite texture.

In the back of the living room, we have french doors to the outside and there we put a 2 square by 3 square in three shades of House Pet. It's a striped effect of light khaki, cafe au lait, and black.

I can email photos if you're interested. My address is brechtjm (at) yahoo (dot) com.
