new neighborhood, potentially?

We are looking at houses in an area with a lot of golf course. In fact, almost half the houses back onto a golf course.

Question: would you live near or backing directly onto a golf course or do you associate "golf course" with "pesticide testing ground"? I do. Am I crazy? I see a lot of nice places, but when I find they back on to the golf course, despite the great view, I cross them off the list. Maybe I am crazy.

Hmmm, that's very interesting. I never thought of the pesticide angle. My sister's house is right on the golf course. Not sure what I think of it. I think it's not necessarily a *good* thing. I don't know. But I guess it's better than looking right at another house. Hmmm...wow, I seriously never thought of the pesticide thing.
My sister did just recently have a golf ball shatter one of their windows :)

I am the *only* person I know who thinks that living beside a golf course is bad. Everybody I have asked tells me they haven't thought of it before.

Only my neurotic, hypochondriac brain sees a golf courses as a big pesticide factory.

But seriously, it can't be good, can it? I can't even consider moving into houses that back onto them. I wouldn't sleep at night!

Wow -- that is a sharp observation on your part and I think you may be on to something.

After reading your post, I googled "pesticides" and "golf course" and it turns out there have been studies linking the pesticides with cancer .... CNN has done stories on it and everything.

I don't live on a golf course but I would think twice about it now.

I think pesticides and toxins have become such a part of life that people don't think about them or question them. But we really must. Despite the extra cost I am trying harder and harder to do all of my grocery shopping at Whole Foods, and to look for USDA organic on the labels. I think it's worth the effort.

I have TOTALLY thought of the pesticide/herbicide issue - it's one of my favorite rants - although I direct mine at the school district!

so glad to see people paying attention!

I am astounded by the number of people unaware of the pesticide issue!
